Camp Dramas
One thing I meant to mention about camp was related to the "music" connection. A lady named Mrs. Cobb (who was never there when I was, but who helped Wiggie out at Pine Lodge when the boys were babies) was at camp while my parents were there and before, and she staged classical dramatic plays on the Merrill House lawn several times a summer, making costumes (that's why it's called the costume room upstairs in South Cottage) and using many campers as actors. The whole camp would be motored over (to the Merrill House lawn) on Sundays in the old huge outboard boat they called The Ark. The Ark was sitting in the woods rotting away down past the girls' dip dock when I was a kid. It had long benches on both sides and camp was less people then, so they could fit in the boat. The camp always had a cultural aspect, and Mr. Welch playing pieces from operas is one of the reasons I love opera! Mrs. Cobb was ancient by the time Tad was born. I doubt if he would even remember her, but I'd like to ask him someday.
